Q & A - Working with Tax Resolution Expert

The government is working with me to resolve my tax debt – why should I hire a representative? The fact of the matter is that no matter how friendly your Revenue Officer may seem, in the end they are always working in the interests of the government. Their promotion within their career field is based upon collecting money from you as quickly as possible – they are nothing more than a bill collector and your interests are never their first priority.

My Revenue Officer told me I don’t need representation for my tax liability – why should I hire a representative? If you were being sued for the same amount as they are trying to collect, wouldn’t your first step be to seek an Attorney’s services? If you were facing criminal charges and the District Attorney told you that you do not need an Attorney, would you take his advice? The only way you are going to ensure the best possible outcome on your tax debt is by seeking professional help.

My situation seems simple enough – why can’t I do this on my own? We often compare negotiations with the tax authorities to a game of chess – every action they take has specific steps that must be taken to counter it. This game, however, has a rulebook that is thousands of pages long called the Internal Revenue Code. The IRS into the Internal Revenue Manual further interprets this code. We have taken the time to learn the rules of the game and will likely reach a resolution with the IRS in half the time it would take you. Meanwhile you can spend this time focusing on running your business.

I have been contacted by several companies offering the same services – how do I choose one? We have compiled a list of questions to consider when choosing a tax advisor and have included them on this website. We are confident that we are the only firm that will have the right answers to all of these questions – and we encourage you to ask these questions to the other firms that you are speaking with. We also encourage you to check records with the Better Business Bureau and search the internet for consumer opinions – google.com can assist you in this.

I already have an Attorney I work with – why can’t he handle this too? Attorneys specialize in various fields of law. Your business Attorney has likely never handled a tax debt. Keep in mind that we are dealing with the Collections Division of the government and all negotiations are administrative, not judicial. The IRS requires representatives to be an Attorney, CPA, or Enrolled Agent – but what you are really hiring is a specialized negotiator who is trained to keep negotiations in your favor and out of court.

I already have a CPA that files my returns – why can’t he handle this too? Most CPA’s deal exclusively with audit defenses and filing returns. They typically have little or no experience dealing with the Collections Division of the government. Think of your CPA as your family doctor while we are a surgeon that specializes in a very specific practice.
